This striking French definitive stamp, valued at 4.20 francs, features Marianne, the enduring symbol of the French Republic, representing liberty and reason. Designed by Louis Briat and engraved by Claude Jumelet (signed “Luquet-Jumelet”), it carries the nation’s famous motto — “Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité” — rendered in elegant script above her flowing hair. Issued in 1982, this orange-red version belongs to the Liberté de Gandon / Luquet series, which modernized the Marianne image for late 20th-century France. It was printed by La Poste and widely used in the early 1980s.
