Now, while many of you may think of this building, on the corner of Buchanan Street and Nelson Mandela Place, as the old Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, it began life as the Glasgow Liberal Club - the name is still carved above the door.

Designed by architect Alexander N Paterson, and built 1908-10, it was later incorporated into the next door Glasgow Athenaeum; the starting point for generations of would-be musicians and actors.

Seen here in the 1950s, it's one of Glasgow's original 'jolly red giants' - the early red sandstone blocks which began to appear in the city in the early 1900s.

Since the RSAMD, now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, moved to Renfrew Street, the former club building has served as a hotel, an interiors shop, and is now a Thai restaurant.
