Scientific Name
Anthurium superbum (‘magnificent, superb Anthurium’)

Common Name
Bird’s Nest Anthurium

Origin
Native to tropical regions of Central and South America, where it grows in warm, humid rainforest environments.

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate moderate light levels, but growth may slow. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Water
Keep the soil lightly moist but not soggy. Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows.

Humidity
Thrives in high humidity. Ideal for bathrooms, near a humidifier, or grouped with other plants. Low humidity can lead to browning leaf edges.

Soil
Use a well-draining, airy mix. A chunky aroid mix with bark, perlite, and compost is ideal to retain some moisture while allowing airflow to the roots.

Food
Feed every 2–3 waters during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.

Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 18–28°C. Avoid temperatures below 15°C and protect from cold drafts.

Pet-safe

Toxic if ingested, so keep out of reach of pets and children.

Sprouts Top Tips
Avoid letting water sit in the centre of the plant for long periods – while it forms a “nest”, good airflow is key to preventing rot.

Extras
This plant grows in a rosette shape, with new leaves emerging from the centre, gradually forming its signature nest-like structure.

Did You Know?
Unlike many Anthuriums grown for their flowers, Anthurium superbum is prized purely for its foliage and dramatic shape.
