The ancient Egyptians & earliest peoples of Mesopotamia are examples of some of the first recorded uses of tallow specifically. A valuable commodity of those days; tallow was used for soaps, balms, food flavoring, candle making & food preservation.
The widespread use of tallow continued through Medieval times, early American settlement, & during the Civil War. With the Industrial Revolution, however, tallow fell out of favor when chemists made discoveries like the hydrogenation of seed oils (trans fats) that could be produced cheaper.
Tallow, is the rendered fat derived from beef or mutton suet. Suet is the hard fat that surrounds the organs. High in vitamins & fatty acids, this fat shares some of the same properties needed in our skin to maintain structural support to our cells.
