Comfrey has been used medicinally for thousands of years to reduce pain and promote healing.
Its name is a corruption of “con firma,” which means “made firm” or “to boil together.” The genus name, Symphytum, means “to grow together” or “to unite.” This is a reference to its ability to heal broken bones and reconnect wounded flesh.
Comfrey has been shown to reduce inflammation, reduce pain, and speed skin healing, heal broken bones and help with muscle soreness. It contains allantoin, a substance which promotes healing by stimulating the growth of new cells.
Benefits of using Comfrey Salve:
During pregnancy, comfrey is a favorite for belly massage, promoting elasticity and preventing stretch marks. I know midwives who rave about how mamas who use comfrey salve on their perineum during pregnancy, tend to have much less tearing during birth.
Many new mothers rely on comfrey salve to help with quick relief and speedy healing from sore and cracked nipples (apply after breastfeeding, and wipe the area gently before the next feeding).
How to use:
Scoop into hands. Massage between fingers then smooth over wounds, bruises, scars, scalp and fractured bones.
Ingredients:
Dried Comfrey, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Beeswax, Eucalyptus
We always suggest doing a small patch test on all of our products before using too much for the first time, just to be sure that you don’t have a reaction. That goes for any topical herbal remedy, not just comfrey salve.
Our Comfrey Salve comes in an amber glass 1oz container.
