Everything about this menu illustration is wonderful - the name of the restaurant spelled out with the rope of a lasso, the bucking horse raising clouds of dust and a plump-chested cowboy as the centerpiece. In his stetson, chaps, cowboy boots and spurs, not to mention the smoking gun that he is holding, this is one funky chicken. The Alamo Plaza was a chain of independently owned motels that depended on the personalities of its owners, according to the authors of The Motel In America. Chattanooga's Alamo Plaza, which opened in 1952, hosted hundreds of weary travelers who headed straight for The Chicken Shack, which served crispy fried chicken and hot rolls with honey. We love some of the other options on the menu which included six gizzards with French fries or a mix of three livers and six gizzards with French fries, all for under a dollar.
