A great example of mid-century West German ceramics, this is a late 60s/early 70s West Steuler Keramik honey brown glazed bottle shaped vase, believed to have been designed by Cari Zalloni. The vase's squarish form is softened via rounded corners, recesses to its two long sides, and the curves of the double banded rim that tops its neck, which, along with its warm, painterly glaze, make the form feel earthy and organic.
Terrific for flowers, this piece feels at once modern and rustic, and would make a great addition to any collection of West German, Fat Lava, or European Art Pottery. Naturally at home amid Mid-Century decor, I think it would also be striking in a super minimal environment, as well as terrific in a farmhouse!
