Yoshitomo Nara - 123 Drumming Girls

Titled 123 Drumming Girls, the pieces feature Nara’s recognizable child-like characters in playful drummers’ uniforms with the numbers “1.” “2,” and “3” embellished on their respective caps.

Across his works, the Japanese artist predominantly portrays innocent children and animals, but also reflects the darkness in them — a duality that isn’t easily noticed for those who are unfamiliar of his works. Nara is also influenced by elements of neo-expressionism and punk rock. His collections have been shown at the Art Institute of Chicago, Osaka National Museum of Art, among many other prestigious institutions.
