The 5307th Composite Unit (Provisional), known as Merrill's Marauders, was a United States Army long-range penetration special operations jungle warfare unit that fought in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. Company D of the 151st Infantry Regiment was one of the six companies that made up this elite force. From February to August 1944, the Marauders marched over 1,000 miles through some of the world's most challenging jungle terrain, engaging Japanese forces in five major battles and numerous skirmishes. Their success in disrupting Japanese operations and capturing the vital Myitkyina airfield established the foundation for modern U.S. Army Ranger long-range operations.
