This is a classic United Kingdom 1d Penny Red stamp, issued between 1854–1857 as part of the line-engraved series that succeeded the famous Penny Black. It features the profile of Queen Victoria, engraved by Charles Heath and his son Frederick. The corner letters (H–G) uniquely identify its position on the printed sheet. This issue is perforated (as opposed to the earlier imperforate Penny Reds), marking a transition in British philately. The black barred numeral cancellation is typical of the period, used to prevent reuse. For collectors, the plate number, perforation quality, and cancellation type are key factors in determining rarity and value.
