Just recently I found several little mid 19th c. shadow box forget me nots made just in this manner, which I find immensely charming, so I jumped on this when I came across it--a wonderfully folky little icon honoring Saint Anne and her daughter Mary. At center is an early lithograph (c. 1830s-40s I believe), printed in Switzerland, portraying a young Mary at the knee of Anne, who points heavenward. But what I especially love is the acid green paper adhered to the angled sides surrounding it, punctuated with cobalt blue cut paper stars--and giving the whole thing an almost electric pop. Under glass, with paper adhered to the exterior around the perimeter, and most paper on the back.

6 5/8" t x 4 3/4" w x 1" d. Some buckling to the cut paper inside, loss (I believe) of a couple of gold centers to the blue stars, and general age and wear, but stable and sound and shows wonderfully, with a charming presence and ambiance,
