Issued in 1981, this ₦6 Austrian commemorative stamp marks World Food Day, established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The design by F. Dorner features two green plates — one filled with rice, the other empty — symbolizing the global contrast between abundance and hunger. At the center is the FAO emblem and its Latin motto “Fiat Panis” (“Let there be bread”), emphasizing the organization’s mission to combat food insecurity.
