This commemorative 30 centimes stamp was issued by Rwanda in 1980 to mark the 150th anniversary of Belgian independence (1830–1980). The design, printed by Cartor, depicts a historic street battle from the Belgian Revolution of 1830, when citizens of Brussels rose up against Dutch rule to form an independent Belgium. The sepia-toned illustration shows revolutionary fighters and cavalry amid urban conflict, symbolizing the struggle for freedom and nationhood. Rwanda, once a Belgian-administered territory, paid tribute through this issue to the shared historical link between the two nations.
