I’ve had a few fancy darning eggs make from a variety of stacked woods like this fine treen box--a spice box I'd guess?--and they, and this especially, amaze and dazzle me! This I am pretty certain is 19th century, and quite finely made, with lovely turned details on the lid and foot. It looks to me that there are at least four different hardwoods used and they are all pretty spectacular.

3 1/2” t x. 4 1/8” d. There looks to be one old repair to the lid in one spot, as documented - pretty well done but and mostly noticeble just when looking down on it but you can feel the edges of the repair.
