This stunning piece of original artwork dated 1938 is by Achille-Émile Othon Friesz (6 February 1879 – 10 January 1949), who later called himself Othon Friesz. Othon was a native of Le Havre & a French artist of the Fauvist movement. He studied at the Le Havre School of Fine Arts in 1895-96 & then travelled to Paris where he met Henri Matisse, Albert Marquet & Georges Rouault. Like them, he rebelled against the academic teaching of Bonnat & became a member of the Fauves, exhibiting with them in 1907. The original oil painting is in great condition, is signed by Othon Friesz & professionally framed in a wide dark coloured timber frame. A fabulous piece for a collector. The artist has signed & dated the painting on the back. See photo.
