When building an aftermarket turbo system, you will need a wastegate to control the extra boost you add. The older turbos had an internal actuator that regulated the boost pressure, but nowadays, with systems becoming more demanding, an external wastegate is the better option.

Controlling higher boost levels and easily swapping out wastegate springs make it a no-brainer. The only problem is that with a 38mm wastegate, you will need a high-quality gasket to ensure you always hold as much boost pressure as possible. Exoracing 38mm External Wastegate Gasket Installation Guide:

Follow our simple and easy steps below to install your brand-new wastegate gasket. If you are unsure of any steps, please consult a professional mechanic.

1. First, ensure the wastegate and turbo manifold are cool to the touch to remove the risk of burns.
2. Remove any vacuum lines connected to the 38mm wastegate.
3. Depending on which gasket you're changing, remove the two bolts from the external side of the wastegate and slide the old gasket out, or remove the two bolts from the turbo manifold flange holding the wastegate. As a side note, we would always recommend replacing both wastegate gaskets whilst you are there for optimal performance.
4. Before installing the brand-new gasket, ensure that all the flanges are perfectly flat, and if not, get them machined flat. If you skip this step, you risk blowing the gaskets out or creating a boost leak.
5. Place the new Exoracing 38mm gasket on either the manifold or outlet side and sandwich between the flanges.
6. Tighten the wastegate using the bolts you removed and torque to factory specification. 
7. Install the vacuum lines again in reverse order to how you removed them.
8. After a few heat cycles, return and retorque the wastegate bolts you have removed as these are very common to come loose on 38mm external wastegates.
