Completely charming. I purchased this (these!) from a favorite dealer in my neck of the woods, from whom I have bought many wonderful and wonderfully tender things. I might guess these little hand-drawn watercolor animals--each standing on a small batch of green but for the ostrich, who got a bit of black--were originally made to be stood up and moved around, like antique handmade paper toy soldiers that I've had a handful of, with folded paper tabs adhered to their backs so that they might stand...but if so that idea appears to have been abandoned (they're pretty small!) and they were pasted down instead. Which is a good thing, keeping them together forever! And in a great 19th century gilded frame with original glass. I'd guess mid 19th century or so on the animals, with the frame maybe a bit earlier than that. 

10 3/4" 8 3/4" framed. Early frame with original blown glass, a few air bubbles. Watercolor animals mounted to a matte gray, finally ribbed backing paper.  One small patch of hardened residue on the surface of the glass at top right corner, as documented, which I have not made an effort to remove but looks like it should come off.
