St Andrew is a traditional motif for Sgian Dubhs, several Scottish regiments, such as the Black Watch, adopted this design on their regimental sgian dubhs. The figure was often referred to as 'the wee Jimmy'.

St Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland. His relics were said to have been bought to Scotland, hence the town in Fife.
