Issued in 1959, this Hungarian commemorative set honors two towering figures of European culture — playwright Friedrich Schiller and composer Joseph Haydn. The 1Ft stamp features a portrait of Schiller with symbolic laurels and quill, while another 1Ft depicts Haydn alongside a musical score and his signature, marking the 150th anniversary of his death. The 40f stamp presents a stylized monogram and Schiller’s birth house, celebrating his 200th birth anniversary. Designed by Légrády Sándor, the set embodies Hungary’s tribute to Enlightenment art, literature, and music.
