This commemorative set of four stamps from the Republic of Maldives was issued in 1977 to honor the 150th anniversary of the death of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827). Each stamp highlights a key moment in the composer’s life and work:

• 2L depicts him with the manuscript of the famous Moonlight Sonata (1801).

• 3L illustrates his historic meeting with Goethe at Teplitz in 1811.

• 4L features the composer alongside string instruments central to his chamber music of 1815.
