This is a handmade wooden Alebrije, or carved wooden animal, from Oaxaca, Mexico, very much in the manner of renowned Alebrije creator Manual Jimenez, if not made by him specifically, which it might be. But I am not quite sure what animal it is meant to represent exactly! The neck is not quite long to be a giraffe (though he did some terrific giraffes, which this closely resembles but for the shorter neck and tail), but too long to be a deer, I think. Regardless, it's pretty great, painted a bright shiny red with black spots, with yellow eyes and brown for the interior of the ears. The legs are attached with three nails each. I believe the piece dates to the 1960s-70s.

7 3/4 tall x 7 1/4" long x 2" wide and in excellent condition.
