Decaf Assam CO2

Caffeine is naturally present in tea, with black tea containing more caffeine than green tea. In order for tea to be considered decaffeinated, it needs to first go through a process to extract the caffeine from the tea leaves. 

In tea, caffeine can be extracted one of three ways, using either Carbon Dioxide, Ethyl Acetate or Methylene Chloride, the latter two being harsher chemical methods of extraction. Because CO2 is a naturally occurring element it is the most eco-friendly method of extraction and does not require chemical solvents.

Under high heat and pressure, the CO2 is passed through the tea leaves, binding to caffeine molecules and thus extracting the caffeine, whilst leaving the leaves intact. 

Although a costly method, we believe that CO2 caffeine extraction best maintains the integrity and flavour of the tea, and are committed to giving only the absolute best to our JP's drinkers.
