Lugh is an Irish deity who is thought to have had an older identity as Lugus, who was revered throughout Celtic realms, and who also became the Welsh god Lleu Llaw Gyffes. Both of them are known as warrior heroes and gods of all crafts and skills. Lugh is also a harvest god and presides over the holiday Lughnasadh, which is held on August 1st or 2nd.

Lugh joined the mythic faery court of the Tuatha De Danaan, although his mother was from a line of Formorians, the race of giants that governed Ireland before the Tuatha De Danaan. He had to use each and every one of his skills to get accepted into the court, and then went on to lead the Tuatha De Danaan to victory against the Formorians in the Second Battle of Mag Tuireadh. Lugh showed great leadership in preparing for the battle, and he organized the talents of all the gods of the Tuatha De Danaan to deploy in the fight. The decisive point in the battle was when Lugh killed his grandfather Balor, a Formorian giant with one eye that could poison and kill anyone who he looked upon. Lugh outwitted this evil eye by using his slingshot to knock the eye out through the back of Balor’s head. The poison from the eye spewed all over the Formorians on the battlefield, causing great destruction among their ranks. As the Formorians fled the advancing Tuatha De Danaan, Lugh was able to capture their king, Bres, whose oppressive rule caused the revolt. Bres begged for his life, offering Lugh many things. It was finally settled that Bres could live if he would teach the Tuatha De Danaan exactly when to sow, plow, and harvest. In this way Lugh gained the secrets of the agriculture of the lands of Ireland from the old king, ensuring the success of the Tuatha De Danaan.

My Lugh oil invokes Lugh's nature as a solar deity and harvest god. It is made on Sundays in the waxing moon, and has a golden, grassy harvest smell.
