This Austrian 6-schilling stamp, issued in 1979 under the Europa CEPT theme, honors Laurenz Koschier (1804–1879), celebrated as a pioneer of philately. The sepia-toned design features a finely engraved portrait of Koschier, bordered by inscriptions of his birth and death years, along with the words "Pionier der Briefmarke" (Pioneer of the Postage Stamp). Designed by A. Pilch and R. Toth, this stamp was part of Austria's contribution to the Europa series promoting European cooperation and heritage.
