The Legacy

Established in 1948 from the Disbursing Storekeeper (SKD) service rating, the DK rate became the Navy's financial backbone. Disbursing Clerks processed payroll for thousands of sailors, managed travel claims, maintained cash accountability, and ensured every dollar was tracked with absolute accuracy. On ships and at shore commands, they ran the disbursing office — the place every sailor visited when pay was wrong, a check needed cashing, or a travel claim needed filing.
