We are delighted to have a small parcel of this absolute stunner. We think this packs a punch for the price. This fine Domaine, based in Mercurey, has been handed down through the generations since 1570 and is renowned for making first-class AOC red Burgundy. With over four hundred years of winemaking know-how to draw from, all wines at Domaine Jean Maréchal are handmade according to traditional winemaking practice. However, not content to sit on their laurels, the good folk at this Domaine are keen to invest in the latest winemaking mod cons and incorporate the latest thinking into their winemaking practice. Classic Mercurey is often described as the 'iron hand within the velvet glove' and wines from this Domaine fit that description admirably. Barrel loads of body and power behind silky smooth tannins - exceptional winemaking and not to be missed by those that appreciate leading edge, well crafted Burgundy.

We think this is drinking well now and will continue to do so. There’s a popular saying here in Burgundy which points out that, since the start of the 20th century, vintages ending in ‘9’ have been exceptional. So when 2019 came around, we were secretly anticipating something special. Little did we know! The vintage will be unapologetically bold and unbelievably concentrated. The whites are indulgent, often explosive, and pinned to a mind-bogglingly good acidic framework, given the summer heat. The reds are sophisticated and elegant, alive.
