I always thought so, 
In Europe I don’t have to wear sunscreen, 
Back home I do. 
In a place where the earth teaches you to wait
and roots don’t question things.

They said I had to change,
that growing up meant becoming like others,
losing my green, softening,
becoming easier to understand.

But not everything that matures
has to stop being who it is.

Sometimes I close my eyes and go back there:
to the tree, to the wind,
to that moment when everything was simple
and no one asked you to be anything else.

The banana tree doesn’t try to fit in, 
It stands on its own.

Because there’s something in the roots
that isn’t negotiable,
something that doesn’t adapt
just to be more likable.

This piece is about that.
About not forgetting where you come from,
even if the world pushes you to go further.
About growing up without betraying yourself.

About choosing yourself, even when it’s not the easy thing to do.
