Good As Gold

Field Notes’ 65th limited Quarterly Edition for Winter 2024, the "Vintage" Edition, brings a fresh take on classic craftsmanship. This release revisits some of their favourite materials, details, and production techniques to create a 3-pack that feels both brand-new and timeless.

For the covers, Field Notes selected a sturdy 100# “Royaltone” stock from the French Paper Company. Officially named “Monarch Red,” the shade leans more toward the deep, rich tones of a fine wine—maybe a well-aged 2012 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir? A subtle linen texture adds to the vintage feel, pairing beautifully with the embossed “Metallic Antique” gold ink. Inside, a geometric pattern on the endpapers gives a nod to the timeless charm of classic hardcover books.

Inside, the pages are printed with a subtle “dot-ruled” pattern in Faded Antique Gold ink on an off-white stock from Domtar, offering a warm, vintage feel. Each page is perforated for easy removal—perfect for notes on the go. And, of course, the details matter: the staples are gold. Natch.

• Bound with a Muller Martini 6-pocket saddle stitcher with cover feeder/scorer, with appreciation to Samuel Slocum, George W. McGill, and William J. Brown, the “Founding Fathers of the Staple.”
• Corners precisely rounded to a 3/8" (9.5mm) radius with a Challenge DCM double round-corner machine.
• Dot-Ruled Lines: 1/4" (6.4mm). Perforated pages.
• Memo book dimensions are 3-1/2" × 5-1/2" (89mm × 140mm).
• FIELD NOTES uses only the Futura typeface family (Paul Renner, 1927) in its materials.
