The Micro Matic MP-093 is an air-powered Flojet beer pump, the standard tool for boosting beer pressure on long-draw draft systems where pure CO2 pressure cannot move beer from keg to faucet without producing foam. Anytime a draft beer run exceeds roughly 25 feet of trunk line, beer pumps become the right call.
Standard short-draw bars (kegerator under the bar, keg within 10 feet of the faucet) work fine on CO2 pressure alone at 12-14 PSI. On long-draw runs (basement keg cooler feeding a second-floor bar, restaurant kitchen kegs feeding a satellite bar), the CO2 pressure required to physically push the beer to the faucet would over-carbonate the keg in days. A beer pump uses compressed air to push beer mechanically, keeping CO2 pressure at the correct carbonation level.
Air-powered diaphragm pumps use compressed air (typically supplied by a small compressor or instrument air) to drive a diaphragm that pushes beer through the line. The pump only runs when the faucet is opened, so it does not waste energy or build excess pressure when the system is idle. The MP-093 is the workhorse Flojet model for moderate-volume long-draw service.
Install in the keg cooler downstream of the keg coupler and upstream of the trunk line. Requires compressed air supply at roughly 60 PSI. Pair with a beer regulator on the air side for adjustment. The pump output pressure should match the static head pressure of the run plus a small margin.
