I am tempted to start a collection titled "the void," into which this c. 1900 Kodak #3 print would perfectly fit, and rather perfectly distill. The void against which this silhouetted man stands reads as pure negative space, with great flame-like shape to it that amplifies a sense of drama and makes for a bit of illusionism, too (as if it could be either a vertical opening/passage or a horizontally oriented mass extending into the distance like a river.) I really love how he leans against one wall of the rock too, his head almost resting there, as if to steady himself himself from being pulled into the vast unknown. Poignant, poetic, and formally striking.
5 1/4" x 4 1/4" and in good condition with a few small dark spots, minor.
