The Everpure 183-150-SS is a 50 PSI water pressure regulating valve (WPRV) with 3/8 inch barbed stainless steel fittings, the standard upstream pressure protection for Everpure commercial water filtration systems. Excess line pressure is the leading cause of filter cartridge failure: filter housings rated for 125 PSI work fine until a municipal pressure surge hits 150-180 PSI and ruptures the housing.
Most American municipal water systems run 40-80 PSI normal pressure. Pressure surges from pump cycling at the municipal end, water main breaks, or service-line repairs can spike pressure to 150+ PSI for short periods. Filter housings, pre-mix soda equipment, and ice machines are sensitive to these surges. A WPRV upstream of sensitive equipment caps the maximum pressure delivered to the equipment, protecting the investment.
50 PSI is the standard output for Everpure filtration applications: high enough for proper filter cartridge function, low enough to keep stress on downstream equipment minimal. Adjustable models exist for non-Everpure applications. The 183-150-SS is factory-set at 50 PSI and is not field-adjustable.
Install upstream of the first filter cartridge. Pair with a backflow preventer if local code requires. The stainless steel fittings handle the temperature and pressure cycling of commercial environments better than brass over multi-year service intervals. Replace every 3-5 years or when output pressure begins to drift from the 50 PSI setpoint.
