• The Stone: Three textures of black. The high-gloss beads are polished obsidian. This is volcanic glass formed when lava cools so fast that crystals have no time to form. The matte black beads are also obsidian, but with the reflective surface stripped back to a soft, understated finish. The rough, porous beads are lava stone. This is solid volcanic rock that cooled slowly enough to trap gas bubbles inside, giving each bead its cratered texture. One reflects. One absorbs. One shows you the raw earth itself. At the center sits a vermeil gold logo bead, featuring 3.5 microns of pure 24kt gold over sterling silver.
• History: Obsidian has been used by humans for at least 700,000 years, making it one of the oldest worked materials on earth. When broken, it produces an edge sharper than any modern steel razor blade. The ancient Aztecs called it itztli. They set obsidian into the eyes of their statues, used it for sacrificial knives, and embedded razor-sharp obsidian blades into wooden clubs. These weapons caused wounds that steel could not match. Lava stone carries its own ancient record. As basalt, it is one of the most widely used building materials in human history. The Romans paved their roads with it. The Egyptians carved it into temple floors. The famous Rosetta Stone is made of basalt, and the Moai statues on Easter Island were carved from it. It is one of the oldest materials humans ever shaped.
• The Belief: In modern crystal practice, obsidian is a root chakra stone, said to strengthen protection, truth, and the ability to confront what is hidden. Lava stone is said to strengthen courage, stability, and grounding during periods of change. One stone was born in fire and cooled into glass. The other was born in the same fire and cooled into earth. Same origin. Different outcome. That is the design.
