Approx 3'1" x 4'9" (94 x 146 cm), this vintage Afghan tribal rug is hand-knotted in wool with a rich, saturated palette of madder red, inky navy and touches of mustard. The field is arranged around a pair of starburst medallions, surrounded by stylised birds, flowers and protective motifs, all framed by multiple geometric borders. It’s a bold, graphic piece that works brilliantly in dark academia, maximalist and boho interiors – ideal beside a bed, in a hallway or grounding a reading corner.

Likely mid 20th century village weaving from Afghanistan, the rug has a medium, even pile on a sturdy foundation. Condition is very good and fully usable with light age-related wear: gentle pile flattening and minor surface rubbing in places, slight irregularities to the fringes and selvedges, and the usual small variations you’d expect in a handmade piece.
