HMS Naiad (F39) was a Leander-class frigate of the Royal Navy, commissioned in 1963. Designed for anti-submarine warfare, she served during the Cold War, operating mainly in the Atlantic and Mediterranean.
Naiad undertook NATO exercises, patrols, and deployments supporting British interests worldwide. She was modernised with improved sensors and weapons, enhancing her submarine-hunting capabilities. Throughout her career, she represented Britain’s naval presence during a period of East–West tension. Decommissioned in 1987, Naiad was later scrapped, marking the end of over two decades of active service.
