Marder 1A2 Driver Training Vehicle is used to train soldiers to drive the Marder infantry fighting vehicle.  This saves wear and tear on the regular operational fighting vehicles.  The Marder Infantry Fighting Vehicle was ordered in 1960 but none entered the field until 1971. Despite this long development, the Germans put over 2,000 into service. Many are being retired now and Greece, Jordan, Indonesia, and Chile are putting them into service. The main gun is a 20mm automatic cannon. There is also the ability to mount the Milan anti-tank missile system. The crew is commander, driver, gunner and six dismounts. Nearly 400 remain in German service, and the Marder has seen combat operations in Afghanistan.
