This sweet antique 10 karat warm colored rose gold ring features a single, rhodolite garnet gemstone. A truly fantastic piece of history dating back to the late Victorian era of, 1890-1910. Its ornate and beautiful face is set with a single oval shaped and faceted, natural purple-red garnet. This striking stone has a wonderful play of color and beautifully cut triangular facets. It is held in place by uniquely shaped claw prongs; a classic design element of early Victorian jewelry. It is hand cast with a clean pattern to either side of the mounting. The stone measures 10 mm by 8 mm and the rise off the finger measures 6.2 mm. The width of the band measures 2 mm at the base. This stone shows average wear to the surface facets and a few tiny nicks that can be seen under magnification. The band has a makers hallmark of a K and anchor, for Ripley Howland, and shows no gold stamp. The gold has been acid tested as 10 karat. Several of the prong tips are missing but the stone is secure in the setting. The weight is 2.8 grams.
