Issued in 1970, this 40 centavos stamp from Mexico’s “México Turístico” (Tourism) series highlights the magnificent Cathedral of Puebla, one of the country’s most renowned colonial landmarks. Designed by A. Cortes, the stamp showcases the cathedral’s twin bell towers, framed against a vibrant abstract background suggestive of Mexican art and culture. The stamp was printed by T.I.E.V. (Talleres de Impresión de Estampillas y Valores) and intended to promote Mexico’s architectural and cultural heritage. The Puebla Cathedral, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, is celebrated for its baroque interior and its role as a symbol of Spanish colonial grandeur.
