Alfred Sisley (1839-1899) is one of our favourite British Impressionists who in fact lived and worked principally in France, staying for a long time along the banks of the Seine where he painted the most exquisitely beautiful watercolours in all seasons, light reflecting on water, trees, clouds, boats, woodlands, riverside houses, country paths, the aqueduct at Marly; and in Britain a view of the Thames from Charing Cross Bridge, an Inn at Molesey and Hampton Court Bridge, bell towers and winter scenes and children at their lessons in period costume.
