The Pap & Wors T-Shirt, featuring artwork by Cape Town-based artist Shaun Hill, is the first of three T-shirts forming part of Good Good Good’s Heritage Day capsule. The T-shirt features screen-prints of Good Good Good-branded fire lighters on its front and typography spelling out “Boerewors & Pap”, a traditional South African meal, on its back. The graphics are printed onto our Heavy T-Shirt silhouette, cut from a 225gsm, 100% Southern African-sourced cotton single jersey textile in cream. The T-shirt fits oversized, but can be sized down. For a country as multicultural as ours, there are few customs that every South African can rightfully lay claim to. The braai, however, is the quintessential “tell me you’re South African without telling me you’re South African” ritual. Even with a national history as tension-ridden as ours, nothing crosses cultural boundaries and brings us together like food, especially meat, cooked over a woodfire.

In recent years, the relabelling of Heritage Day as Braai Day has been a topic of much contention, since being South African is significantly more than a few chops and sausages on a barbeque, but no one can deny that if you’re aiming to unite and ignite excitement in South Africans, show them firelighters, boerewors and pap.
