Geography Kit 2: Our Continents and Mapping Skills

Lesson Intentions: Ability to identify and name the seven continents and their physical features; refine visual acuity and fine motor skills; develop mapping skills; using a compass rose and learning the cardinal directions; language development; learn a beginning history of maps; and to start to develop beginning research skills.

Materials included in lesson kit: Seven continent cut outs; a circle inset for map making; “Me on the Map,” book by Joan Sweeney; a set of 3 part continent cards; a small compass; a laminated compass rose; a small Lego boat to put together; an illustrated lesson plan in an organized folder; a box of colored pencils; a pencil sharpener;  4 pieces of 12 x 18 white paper to create maps on; two copies of a five page continent report template.

Group Kit Option: A group kit covers extra supplies for 2, 3, or 4 students. Each additional student will receive an extra piece of mapping paper, a Lego boat, a compass, an extra report template, and a pencil.  Choose from the drop-down menu.

This educational kit was made with love by a certified Montessori teacher of 19 years.
