Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch #65 (2019) 70cl
A'Bunadh is a series that put the Aberlour distillery on the map, so to speak - the launch of this series in 1997 significantly boosted its popularity around the world. This is batch #65 released in 2019. This single malt comes at a strength of 59.9% which has to do with a tradition that dates back to the 19th century when villagers would come to the distillery to collect their whisky straight from the cask. They often used bottles they got from the local chemist which is reflected in the bottle's apothecary design. A'Bunadh #65, like all expressions of this series, has an incredible colour to which no photo does justice. Have a taste yourself, appreciate its colour and take a stab at guessing this dram's age.
Batch 65 is matured in Spanish Oloroso Sherry butts. A sherry bomb and a half!
Nose : Fruity, red fruits, berries, raisins and chocolate aromas
Palate : Strong, pepper and fruity notes alongside berries and chocolate hints
Finish : Long, fruity finish with hints of wood and nuts
About Aberlour
The Aberlour distillery was founded in 1879 by James Fleming, though distillation occurred at the site earlier. A devastating fire in 1898 destroyed much of the distillery and its whisky, but it was promptly rebuilt with modern equipment by Charles Doig. It was sold to S. Campbell & Sons Ltd in 1945 and later became part of the Pernod Ricard group in 1974, which helped establish its strong market presence in France
