Cantine dell'Angelo Torrefavale comes from old vines.
Golden yellow in colour, with a mineral and, most importantly, salty nose.
Very long and deep finish.
Superb when paired with white meat.
Natural wines are not chemically manipulated to produce a standardised output, which must be preserved at all costs.
Therefore, they reflect their vineyard origins better. Therefore, they can also vary significantly from one vintage to the next. They feel the influence the climate and of the general environmental context.
Certainly, the objective is precisely to obtain the best possible output under varying circumstances, always trying to deliver a wine that reflects the distinctive character of the territory.
Moreover, having very little or no added SO2, natural wines usually evolve in the bottle, especially in the first months or years.
Consequently, this is a general characteristic of completely natural wines.
Angelo Muto farms five hectares of Greco di Tufo vineyards around the small village of Tufo.
This village is most importantly the center of the Greco di Tufo appellation.
Furthermore, Angelo’s flagship parcel lies directly atop a sulfur mine, on a very steep slope at 45m above sea level.
He refuses to treat his vines with herbicides or pesticides, boasting the abundant grasses, wildflowers, and butterflies prospering amid the rows of Greco.
Angelo employs native yeast, stainless steel fermentation, does not filter his wine, and adds only minimal amounts of sulfur.
