During WWII, capturing an enemy's working battle tank was highly valuable for assessment and destruction tactics. This early Sherman tank, seized by Germany's 501st Heavy Tank Battalion in Tunisia (1942), bore a hand-painted warning ensuring its transport for evaluation. The Germans first encountered the Sherman at El Alamein and were impressed by its mass production efficiency.
Though outmatched by the Tiger, its logistical advantages and widespread use among Allied forces helped secure victory, with over 50,000 produced.
