Cymbopogon ambiguus
Native lemongrass is an aromatic grass with a strong citrus odour, traditionally used by Aboriginal people to treat flu symptoms, chest infections and skin sores. It is found widely throughout Australia except in the cool
temperate regions.
For cooking, harvest when about 30cm tall. Look for stalks
around 1-2cm thick, then cut or twist them off the base.
Slice and use as needed, or save for later by freezing or
drying.
Expect growth to about 90cm high and wide in a typical backyard or smaller if grown in a pot. This plant is a popular choice for ground cover, gap filling, rockeries or mass planting.
