Johannes Otto Paulus was born into a family of bowmakers in 1916, and learned his craft from his father, Otto Paulus, who established the family workshop in Markneukirchen in 1923. Having also spent a number of years working under Adolf C. Schuster, he graduated from his apprenticeship in 1950. This expertly crafted pernambuco bow features silver mounts and the maker’s brand stamp on the player side of the handle, as well as “W. Germany” to the underside of the shaft. The family crest on the frog exhibits wear, indicating that this particular example is older, likely from the 60’s. Strong and consistent, with a balanced weight of 60.5 grams; an ideal choice for a player looking for a good bow at a modest price point.
