This magnificent Georgian work of art is crafted in 9ct Gold.  The Marquise shaped brooch features a stunning sepia portrait of a lady at an urn, underneath a weeping willow tree.  The urn says:  There's Rest In Heaven' and is inscribed on its reverse to:  Jane Harris, Jan 22 - 1787. 
 
This wonderful mourning scene is characteristic of the mourning jewellery of the time.  Sepia paint was commonly used, and was created by dissolving human hair to a powdered state and mixing it with the brown ink derived by brown ink derived from cuttlefish  

This wonderful piece of history measures 4.3cm x 2.5cm and weighs 8.03g.
