\nTalisker Port Ruighe Single Malt on the nose has a powerful peat-smoke with sea-water saltiness, which morphs in to a rich chilli and smokey chocolate character on the palate. A thick, wood smoke whisky, with added sweetness from rich berry fruits and alternative notes such as chocolate and orange pith. \n \nTalisker Port Ruighe Single Malt is double matured in port casks, and is a toast to the Scottish traders who braved the high seas and were instrumental in the foundation of the port wine trade. Port Ruighe, pronounced ‘Portree’ is the Gaelic spelling of the once-bustling trading port on Skye. The port finish combines Talisker’ s powerful maritime character with succulent sweet notes of rich berry fruits for a superb taste experience. \n \nTalisker was built in 1830 by brothers Kenneth and Hugh MacAskill. \n \nAs sons of the local doctor they were part of the establishment, so it's unlikely they would have embraced the fine art of distillation so bravely if it had still been an illegal practice. \n \nBut for those that took the trouble of obtaining a license it wasn't anymore, so distillation at Talikser was started in 1831. The distillery was transferred to Scottish Malt Distillers (SMD, predecessors of Diageo) in 1930. \n
