Join us on Saturday 24th January for a tour around Hayatsu Architect's recently completed project, The Catford House.
The Catford Constitutional Club was a popular local pub until it closed in 2019. It's original core was a Georgian farmhouse built in 1736, the oldest extant building in Catford, with successive mid 19th and 20th century extensions adding to its volume. Due to years of neglect and lack of maintenance, the building fabric and structure had deteriorated, making it unsafe to enter.
Hayatsu Architect's were tasked with saving the building, by repairing and refurbishing it - bringing it back to life as a pub and community kitchen.
Now known as the Catford House, the pub has a new timber frame, inserted into the Georgian section, made up of permanent scaffolding that braces the existing walls, tying them together. The structure frames a triple height space with gallery access and an interwoven platform lift, acting as a central hall connecting all the existing rooms and making them fully accessible.
