They could be run as:

 - Fully venting off to atmosphere (a.k.a SuperSonic) 
 - Fully recirculating like a diverter valve, except still make the sweet BOV sound (a.k.a Plum Back)
 - Half & Half (a.k.a 50/50)

These units are also adjustable by twisting the top cap clockwise, and counter clock-wise to control the degree of vent off for fine-tuning and getting the most out of the BOV based on any individual's preference.
