Run Full or Half-Moon Deflectors + Add a Second Cooking Level

The CGS 2XL Woo Expander is built to handle the demands of the 2XL Big Green Egg. Fabricated from heavy-duty 5/16" 304 stainless steel, the 3-level, 8-leg design delivers rock-solid performance from inside the fire ring to the felt line.

This is how you turn a 2XL into a true multi-level, multi-zone cooking system.

• Top Ring – Holds the 2XL cooking grid near the felt line
• Middle Ring – Supports 2XL deflectors, XL grids & griddles just above the fire ring
• Lower Ring – Holds 18"–20" grids and 18" deflectors closer to the fire for high-heat grilling

Shipping Tip: These ship free, but the box size puts them in a 40+ lb shipping class. So go ahead and fill the box with accessories and get the most out of your order.

Direct Grilling

You can grill on all three levels—the lower you go, the hotter it gets.

Top Ring: Brings your 2XL grid close to the felt line for easier handling and controlled direct cooks in the 325°F–400°F range.

Middle Ring: Runs a 24" XL EGG grid, or maximize solid surface grilling with one or two XL EGG plancha griddles. It's a fun way to change things up!

Lower Level: Gets closer to the fire with a CGS 20" stainless grid or EGG 18" cast iron grid. Pair with the CGS 2XL Lump Reducing Ring for smaller, controlled cooks.

Indirect BBQ & Two-Zone

Full Indirect BBQ: Run two 2XL half-moon deflectors on the middle level for low-and-slow cooks. 2XL grid goes on the top ring.

Two-Zone Cooking: Use a single half-moon deflector to create direct & indirect zones—perfect for controlled grilling cooks under 425°F.

Multi-Level & Zone Cooking

This is where the 2XL Woo really stands apart.

If you're a fan of reverse sear, this setup lets you cook low and slow, then finish hot—all within one system:

• CGS 18" Half-Moon Deflector (lower level)
• CGS 24" Half-Moon Stainless Grid (middle level)
• EGG XL Half-Moon Plancha (middle level)

Or as shown above, drop deeper into the fire ring for maximum heat. Run a full round grid on the lower level and place a CGS 18" half-moon deflector on it to create two zones. Then add a 24" XL half-moon grid above for a complete multi-level setup.

How It Fits: Recommended Accessories

With three cooking levels, the 2XL Woo opens up a lot of options. Here's how everything fits together—and which accessories work best at each level.

Top Level

• 2XL cooking grid sits just below the felt line. Best for everyday grilling and easy access cooks.

Middle Level

• 2XL 24" half-moon deflectors sit ~5/8" above the fire ring. Raised position improves airflow while maintaining full indirect coverage.
• 24" XL grid provides nearly the same usable space as the 2XL grid. Go XL half-moon grids if you want to run dual zones across the middle and lower levels.
• XL Big Green EGG Plancha Griddles changes things up a bit. The outer tabs on the plancha position the plancha on the middle ring.

Reminder: usable cooking space is based on the 25.5" fire ring diameter.

Lower Level

• Designed for high-heat cooking inside the fire ring.
• Best performance comes from staying within the 19" charcoal grate diameter.

• Deflectors at this level:
  • CGS 18" Half-Moon Deflectors

Pro Tip: The lower level is your high-heat zone. The middle level controls airflow and indirect cooking. The top level gives you access and control. Use all three to fully unlock the 2XL.

No Handles by Design

The 2XL Woo does not include handles. At this size, setups are heavier and better handled in sections rather than lifting everything at once. Remove the 2XL grid first, then the Woo. This keeps the design strong, simple, and optimized for the 2XL.

The Flexible Second Grid sits atop the 2XL cooking grid. The 2XL grid handles keep it properly positioned. The key Flexible Second Grid specs are:

• 24" diameter cooking grid in two half sections.
• Front grid section is removable for staging up top.
• Go both grids for big meat cooks up top.

• 5 inches between upper and lower grids—enough room for brisket and pork shoulders.
